Entry into Mexico

A valid passport is required to enter Mexico, while citizens of many countries, including the United States, Canada, the European Union, Japan and others, do not need a visa.

However, travellers should check in advance the requirements for entry into Mexico, including any visa or passport validity requirements.

In addition, depending on the purpose of the visit, visitors may need to fill out a tourist card (Forma Migratoria Múltiple - FMM), either online or upon arrival, to report the length of their stay.

Currency

The currency in Mexico is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Here are approximate exchange rates against some major currencies:
1 US Dollar (USD) ≈ 20 Mexican Pesos (MXN)
1 Euro (EUR) ≈ 22 Mexican Pesos (MXN)
1 British Pound (GBP) ≈ 26 Mexican Pesos (MXN)
1 Canadian Dollar (CAD) ≈ 16 Mexican Pesos (MXN)

Electricity

Type A and B electrical sockets are standard in Mexico. Here is some information about electrical sockets in Mexico:

Type A sockets
These are ungrounded sockets with two flat parallel pins. They operate with a voltage of 127 V and a frequency of 60 Hz. Type A outlets are commonly found in older buildings and may not be compatible with equipment that requires grounding.

Type B sockets
Type B sockets are similar to Type A sockets but include a grounding pin. They have two flat parallel pins and a ground pin in the shape of a small semicircle. Type B sockets are increasingly common in newer designs and can accommodate a wider range of equipment.

Be sure to check the voltage and plug type compatibility of your electronic devices before travelling to Mexico. If your devices use a different plug type, you may need an adapter to use them in Mexican outlets. Additionally, if your devices are not compatible with 127 volts, you may need a voltage converter or transformer to prevent damage.

Most hotels and accommodations in Mexico City and other major tourist areas have outlets that can accept different types of plugs, but it's always a good idea to check with your accommodation provider beforehand. In addition, it's a good idea to carry a universal outlet adapter and, if necessary, a voltage converter to ensure that you can safely charge your devices while in Mexico.
